Washington, D.C. - Some say that when running for President of the United States the candidates usually tell the people of America what they want to hear but never fulfill their promises. Picture yourself voting for the next person for President based off them saying they'll bring home all the troops or they'll lower the price for college. President Obama for an example, The first Black President made so many promises some were kept and others were not. The 4 quotes below represents the promises and compromises that were made to keep the country organized and safe.
On "my first day in office, I would give the military a new mission: ending this war". said President Barack Obama.
Barack Obama met with the military commanders in charge of Iraq, January 21st 2009, his first day in office. He made great efforts in pulling in everyone who had and needed a say so in the process before it became final. During the discussion he asked the military leadership to engage in additional planning necessary to execute a responsible military drawdown from Iraq. President Obama went above and beyond to end the war, which ended in December of 2011.
"Establish regularity in deployments: so that active duty and reserves know what they must expect, rather than the current trend of changing the deployment schedules after they have left home, which harms the morale of troops and their families." said President Barack Obama.
Barack Obama and his administration has worked diligently on keeping the country organized. They wanted to make the deployment of troops more predictable for families. The first step was ending the stop-loss program, which forced troops to stay deployed for longer than their expected commitments.
"Existing U.S. programs of military to military exchanges, joint training, education, and human rights programs must be reoriented from their current Cold War standards to reflect new strategic priorities and ethical standards. Relationships that reassure potential future competitors both of America's goodwill and its strength may help dissuade emerging powers from becoming threats. An Obama administration will also prioritize the strengthening training and working relationships with the next generation of military leaders in allied states in the Muslim and wider developing world, in order to build professionalism and respect for rights and democracy, as well as open and sustain unofficial channels of communication and influence."
Obama went above and beyond just to make sure that the country stays safe. He was willing to expand the military just to prevent things like other wars from occurring. Some may say that he doesn't try hard enough to fulfill his promises but statistics show otherwise.
